TCPPA | Kira Derryberry | Creative Light

Twin Cities Professional Photographers Association (TCPPA) is an amazing group for professional photographers. They were founded in 1984, and have been supporting local photographers ever since! The main purpose of TCPPA is to educate their photography members in the craft of professional photography. Every month, national and local speakers present to TCPPA members on various topics to improve skills in lighting techniques, equipment operation, posing, composition, and graphic design. Their members are able to receive continuing education and connect to help each other grow. I joined the TCPPA board last year, and it has been such an honor to help this amazing association grow. One of my favorite things about TCPPA is that they host photography seminars every month at Century College in White Bear Lake, MN. Last month, Kira Derryberry was our presenter! Kira is a portrait photographer from Tallahassee, FL. Her presentation covered creative lighting and how photographer can unlock their potential! It was such a great seminar, and I have enjoyed all of the TCPAA seminars that I’ve attended so far. If you are a Twin Cities photographer, I highly encourage you to look into TCPPA to see if this amazing group might be the right fit for your! For those who are not familiar with The Hutton House, it’s a new wedding venue west of downtown Minneapolis. With soaring ceilings, natural light, and an elegant atmosphere, this venue is a great event space option for weddings or professional events. For this meeting, Kevin Molesworth, CSEP, owner of Brass Tracks Events and international speaker at The Hutton House, presented at the meeting on basic objections to any sale and how everyone can become a great salesperson by understanding psychology and client perspectives. Did you know that behind the scenes, Jeannine Marie Photography has two office assistants? Assistant Janine helps out with office work, social media, and keeping up with emails while Alee does all of the color correcting for Jeannine’s photos! Today we want to introduce you to Alee and get to know her a little bit more!    How long have you been with Jeannine Marie Photography? I’ve been with JMP for about a year now! What do you do at Jeannine Marie Photography? I get to go through the weddings Jeannine beautifully shoots and color correct the images.  When I’m not working with Jeannine Marie Photography…I’m: Running my graphic design studio, Urban Mast! Favorite part of going through wedding photos: I love so many things about going through wedding photos. I love when you can see just how much a couple loves each other just by the way they are looking at one another. I’m also a sucker for the bride’s fashion; the dress and of course the SHOES! It’s really all about the shoes for me 😉   Best tip for brides: Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to make everything “perfect.” Try to enjoy every moment of everything from being engaged and planning your wedding to the wedding day itself. It will go by so quickly, so soak it all in and don’t get caught up in the small details that really don’t matter.  Favorite RomCom: All-time favorite, Sleepless in Seattle. Favorite Wedding Dessert: Donuts! Partial to Mojo Monkey Donuts 🙂 Favorite Vacation Spot: Anywhere warm with a beach or NYC.  Favorite Drink to Order at Caribou: Vanilla Latte Any pets?...

Courtney and Doug met all the way back in the fourth grade! They were introduced by Courtney’s best friend (and one of the bridesmaids) Katelyn, who was also Doug’s neighbor. Courtney and Doug were best friends growing up and dated a few times throughout their school days but eventually drifted apart when Courtney went to college in Duluth. At her sister’s wedding, Courtney knew she had to see him again and sent him a text. From there, the two started dating and it eventually led to October 27th of 2016. Courtney was on fall break from college and Doug took her to dinner. They drove to the Maple Grove band shell, a placed filled with fun memories for the two. They walked down to the shell and Doug gave Courtney a small speech that ended with him on one knee. Of course, she said yes! For their big day, they wanted an Art Deco/ Great Gatsby themed wedding. They chose Historic Concord Exchange in South St. Paul because the venue is over 100 years old and they could picture themselves “partying like Gatsby” in the former nightclub venue. They wanted their wedding to be an endless night of partying and celebrating and they definitely achieved that! They even had a signature drink of Arnold Palmer and Captain Morgan for their unity ceremony to kick off the fun atmosphere! One of my favorite things about the night was that the couple had cheesecakes from Muddy Paws Cheesecake! So yummy!! Rachel and Joe met at George Mason University in Virginia as undergrad students. The two were neighbors and had several mutual friends so one day, they decided to go see a movie together. And well, the rest is history! “Being college sweethearts is wonderful- we had the opportunity to have fun as students and transition into the working world together,” Rachel said. Skip ahead to Memorial Day of 2017. Rachel and Joe were having date night and it started at Lincoln Memorial on the National Mall (one of their favorite spots to go to talk and watch the sunset). On this night, Joe got down on one knee and proposed! Of course, Rachel said yes! Rachel and Joe planned their wedding all the way from Washington D.C.! The couple, as well as Rachel’s family, all live in Virginia. Joe’s family is from Minnesota so they decided to have the wedding in Joe’s home state! Their wedding ceremony was at Church of Assumption and the reception was at Landmark Center. The couple chose Church of Assumption because Joe’s family regularly attends church services there. They chose Landmark Center for their reception venue because they loved the classic look of the building and they knew their Virginia relatives would enjoy the enriching Minnesota history that the Landmark Center has to offer. In honor of the couple’s history in Virginia and Rachel’s home state, their table numbers were all Washington D.C. themed! Both Rachel and Joe love the color light blue so they also decided to incorporate this color into their flowers, ceremony programs, and wedding party’s attire. One very special aspect...
